  • 140g unsalted butter
  • 100g dark muscovado sugar
  • 3 table spoon of golden syrup
  • 350g plain flour
  • 1 able spoon of bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 able spoon of ground ginger and 1 able spoon of ground cinnamon
  • pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 balls stem ginger from a jar, chopped

Step 1: Set the oven to 200C/180C for fan/gas mark 6 as that begins to get hot, place 2 basking sheets with baking parchments safely. Next melt butter, sugar and syrup in a pan until the solution is melted and the solution is sticky, yet runny.

Next mix the flour, soda, the spicesĀ  and pinch in a bit of salt, let all this mix thoroughly for 5 mins. Once these ingredients have been mixed, stir in the mix made earlier and add in the chopped ginger to give you with a thick dough like solution.

Step 2: Let the solution cool down and once it has roll it out into a dough with 5mm thickness so that the Gingerbread man shape is easy to cut. Be sure to re-use the trimmings, so re-cut and and re-make the dough and re-roll. Continue cutting them out until you have no more dough left.

The Gingerbread men that are cut be sure to place on baking sheets and place in the oven for 12 mins until they are golden brown. Let them cool for 20 mins on racks before eating. *Want to make them more chocolatey? Why not mix a bit of chocolate powder in the dough to add the chocolate feeling to it*

Step 3: Every Gingerbread man needs to have buttons and a face. To decorate your little man mix some icing sugar with some milk water, be sure to mix until you have a thick solution. Drip the icing flavor into a plastic bag and from one end of the corner make a cut so small amounts can easily exit and begin decorating your Gingerbread man

You can add some buttons, a smile, some hair anything and everything to jazz your gingerbread man. You can also cut cherries to make smiles and buttons, you can give each Gingerbread man his/her own personality and give them a character.

Voila that’s your Gingerbread man decorate and ready to eat! Get your cooking mits on and start this recipe with your children today!
